Esther Brazil joins CCS to perform Bach Mass in B minor in Canterbury Cathedral on 31 October

Mezzo-soprano Esther Brazil made her BBC Proms Debut in August this year in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. She will be joining Canterbury Choral Society (CCS) later this month in their Canterbury Festival concert of Bach Mass in B Minor. The performance also features the London Handel Orchestra and eminent soloists David Allsopp, Robin Bailey, and David Ireland. The Mass encompasses the most impressive of Bach’s choral writing together with inspirational solo movements. Canterbury Festival 2014, Kent’s International Arts Festival, is in full flow. A highlight of this year’s Canterbury Festival is Sir Willard White, one of the world’s leading bass-baritones, singing in Canterbury Cathedral with Canterbury Choral Society. Born in Jamaica, Sir Willard White has sung in opera houses around the world and at the Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg Festivals. Penny Gore presents a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the start of a week of Afternoon on 3 devoted to great choral works (listen again). Daniele Gatti conducts the Radio France Chorus and Orchestre National de France, with soloists Lucy Crowe (soprano), Christianne Stotijn (contralto), Rainer Trost (tenor), Michael Nagy (bass-baritone) and Armand Sztykgold (boy soprano) (soloist from the Radio France Children’s Chorus).
